In the mid 19th century, women of the coal mining towns ofNortheastern Pennsylvania would weave and sew to help support theirfamilies. Today, women at The Grateful Thread weave and sew to supportvictims of domestic violence.

The Grateful Thread is a business initiative of Schuylkill Women inCrisis which serves Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania. Your purchase oftheir products not only provides funds to support services, but alsoprovides job training opportunities to victims of domestic violence andothers re-entering the work force.

ChicoBag and The Grateful Thread both support the environment by offering manyproducts made from 100% recycled materials. Donated fabrics and othermaterials are woven, knit and crocheted into colorful textiles whichare then incorporated into everyday products such as totes, handbags, aprons, placemats, rugs, and more.

ChicoBag has formed a unique partnership with The Grateful Thread torepurpose reusable bags that are no longer functional. All  reusable bags ChicoBag receives that have reached the end oftheir useful life are donated to The Grateful Thread and repurposedinto new products that are for sale on our website. We do not mark up any costs on these products and 100% of theproceeds are sent back to The Grateful Thread.
